New Energy in Focus: Extinguishing the Battery Fire
Release time:2017-09-22
As new energy technologies experience rapid growth, an increasing number of electric vehicles are entering urban areas to serve the public. However, a series of unexpected fires has prompted manufacturers to reassess the safety of EVs. How can we extinguish battery fires? Battery explosion‑proofing has become an inescapable industry‑wide challenge.
At the 12th China International Battery Technology Exchange Fair (CIBF), Puyi Battery unveiled a safe power‑battery PACK, emphasizing enhanced energy efficiency and safety, which earned unanimous praise from visitors. With safety and efficiency in mind, Puyi reached out to Voir to seek a protective solution that would further bolster the safety of its batteries. After multiple rounds of discussion, Voir’s technical team, taking into account the unique characteristics of Puyi’s battery PACK, built upon the EPV platform to develop a recyclable explosion‑proof vent valve. Because the entire protection process involves maintaining air‑pressure equilibrium, releasing pressure in case of an explosion, and then restoring balanced ventilation—repeating this cycle—the device is also known as the EPVS balance valve.

EPVS battery balancing valve
The EPVS balance valve, distinct from both the Voir battery vent valve and the EPV explosion‑proof valve, represents a combined solution that integrates the features of these two products. Constructed entirely of metal and equipped with an internal spring mechanism, it leverages the energy of the spring—triggered by pressure fluctuations within the battery pack—to equalize abnormal pressures, thereby achieving explosion‑proof or explosion‑suppression performance and enhancing the overall safety of the battery pack. The EPVS balance valve offers several key advantages: ① Its spring‑based design enables cyclical venting and pressure‑balancing for explosion protection; ② This cyclic explosion‑protection process is safe, loss‑free, and more cost‑effective (a breakthrough compared to the EPV); ③ A robust metal housing provides excellent durability and high mechanical strength; ④ Its compact size ensures exceptional adaptability; and ⑤ Threaded mounting makes installation exceptionally convenient. Of course, the most significant distinction from the EPV explosion‑proof valve is that, under specified pressure‑change conditions, the EPVS can repeatedly perform pressure‑balancing and explosion‑prevention without sustaining damage. This not only elevates the safety of Puyi battery packs but also reduces explosion‑protection costs, allowing more budget to be allocated toward further improving other performance characteristics or quality aspects of Puyi batteries.
Having extinguished the battery fire, Puyi remains fully confident. Through dedicated research and a steadfast focus on safety, Puyi has established a distinct advantage in battery safety. The company is firmly convinced that, as new energy vehicles and connected‑car technologies continue to gain traction in the market, this advantage will steadily accumulate, translating into competitive strength and enabling Puyi to lead the industry.
